Parametric Study on Ridges Inducing Secondary Motions in Turbulent Channel Flow

نویسندگان

چکیده

A DNS parametric study of streamwise?aligned rectangular ridges is carried out in a fully developed turbulent channel flow with constant rate at $Reb = 18000$. The simulations were systematically varying the ridge height h, width w and structural wavelength $S$. generate strong large?scale secondary motion, which measured terms integral swirl strength. Of presented cases, configuration height$ h 0.1 \delta$, $S/w 4$, $ S 1 \delta$ produces strongest $4.5\%$ $U_b$. topology discussed as result dimensions.

Numerical study of turbulent forced convection jet flow of nanofluid in a converging sinusoidal channel

Research in convective heat transfer using suspensions of nanometer-sized solid particles in base liquids started only over the past decade. Recent investigations on nanofluid, as such suspensions are often called, indicate that the suspended nanoparticles remarkably change the transport properties and heat transfer characteristics of the suspension. Bending walls can also improve heat transfer...

Parametric study of a viscoelastic RANS turbulence model in the fully developed channel flow

One of the newest of viscoelastic RANS turbulence models for drag reducing channel flow with polymer additives is studied in different flow and rheological properties. In this model, finitely extensible nonlinear elastic-Peterlin (FENE-P) constitutive model is used to describe the viscoelastic effect of polymer solution and turbulence model is developed in the k-ϵ-(ν^2 ) ̅-f framework. The geome...

The evolution of large scale motions in turbulent pipe flow

A dual-plane snapshot POD analysis of turbulent pipe flow at a Reynolds number of 104,000 is presented. The high-speed PIV data were simultaneously acquired in two planes, a crossstream plane (2D-3C) and a streamwise plane (2D-2C) on the pipe centerline. The cross-stream plane analysis revealed large structures with a spatio-temporal extent of 1-2R, where R is the pipe radius. The temporal evol...
